Parkburn Have Been Shortlisted As Finalists in Two Categories at the 2023 Subsea Expo Awards
22nd February 2023

An expert in the design, manufacture, and installation of world class material and product handling systems, Parkburn is delighted to have been shortlisted for Subsea Expo’s Technology Award and Company of the Year (over 50 employees). Organised by the Global Underwater Hub, the prestigious Subsea Expo Awards recognise the companies and individuals who are leading the way in the UK’s underwater sectors each year.
Technology Development Award
The Technology Development Award recognises excellence by a company in developing new technology and bringing it to the market. With many innovations over the years, technology development has played an important part in Parkburn’s success.
Here at Parkburn- innovation, one of our founding principles, remains at the heart of what we do. The focus over the years has been to build equipment that offers unique capabilities, providing solutions to current issues and bring genuine value for the end customers’ operations.
A recent example of this is the Parkburn Capstan. The Deep Water Capstan (DWC) is a patented fibre rope handling machine which has been developed specifically to tension and de-tension fibre ropes, cables and umbilical’s, without inflicting significant force onto these.

Partnering with MacCregor, Parkburn’s DWC features at the heart of the MacGregor FibreTrac 1500 Crane. This crane is the first of its type and has been awarded DNV Class notation under E407 rules. The FibreTrac 1500 provides the ability to lift heavy loads at depths that normally require much larger cranes on larger vessels.

The Capstan has been further modified for use within the Subsea telecommunications market to offer the industry the first Self Fleeting Cable Drum Engine (SFCDE) that does not require any external or internal mechanical devices such as fleeting rings, knives or moving parts, to move the cable across the face of the cable drum surface.

Company of the Year (over 50 employees)
The Company of the Year Award (Over 50 employees) recognises excellence in overall company performance in the underwater sector. Without our people, Parkburn’s continued success over the last 30 years would not have been possible. Recently, Parkburn has revised the company structure for the benefit of all employees and has become an ‘Employee Ownership Trust’. This structure ensures that the employees of Parkburn will benefit from the ongoing and future success of the business.
Due to our existing knowledge and expertise, Parkburn offer a range of in house capabilities in design, manufacture, test and servicing. Parkburn’s test tower has been specifically designed to provide intensive diagnostics and remote connect capabilities for rapid response and maintenance support. At more than 100 ft high and 125Te rated, the tower is equipped to carry out a more thorough set of tests on the research and development of the company’s handling systems.
Parkburn would like to wish all Subsea Expo Awards 2023 finalists the best of luck in their categories! We look forward to meeting you all at the awards dinner on the 22nd of February at the P&J Live.
