Originally developed in association with the British Post Office Research Department for laying and
recovering submarine telephone cables, Parkburn Precision Handling Systems have designed, manufactured, tested and
installed, a wide range of Linear Cable Engines for varying applications within the submarine telecommunications industry.
Modular system Our Linear Cable Engines are of a modular construction assembled in sections of wheelpair assemblies. They are designed as bi-directional
systems for both laying and repair operations, whilst posing minimum risk to the cable or repeaters.
Each individual wheelpair is controlled by fully synchronising speed, wheel-opening and pressure/squeeze onto the cables. At very low cable
tension in shallow waters the sensitive control systems will automatically reduce the drive units torque, reducing the risk of cable slip.
Typical combinations of up to 18-36 wheelpairs are available depending on required pulling force, available deck space
or requirements of specific cable types.
Hydraulic or AC drives
The drive system for the LCE can be delivered with either self-contained closed loop hydraulic system or with AC-frequency controlled electric motors. In case of power loss, the fail safe brakes will be activated. In addition, the hydraulic pressure to the pivot arms will be maintained.
LCE systems can be supplied from one wheel pair up to 36 wheel pairs and dependent upon their configuration, can be built in modular form and containerised, to be fully portable.
