The control, reliability and flexibility of the Parkburn Precision Handling Systems suite of cable machinery has been radically improved through the introduction of AC electric drives and PLC based digital control philosophies. This advance provides the operator with simple, pushbutton controls in addition to a touch–screen alternative via an in–console, Human Machine Interface or 'HMI'. PLC control now provides the facility for our Cable Drum Engine\Linear Cable Engine\ DOHB or Transporter systems to operate in either full speed control, full tension control, pure manual control or even fully automatic control (when integrated with a suitable CDIS system, e.g. Makai). Now and for the first time, the Cable Ship operator has the choice to lay cable in a conventional manner or at a pre–determined slack value, without operator interference.
